Pricey leather cases by Vaja for Sony VAIO P Series

While we know how pricey the Sony VAIO P Series may already be, we didn’t get to really try it out and get hands on with it recently. After having done that at the Gadget Show Live recently, we truly agree that if you had the desire and the money to spend on the new Sony portable beast then you should also drop your coin on this, Vaja’s leather made “ivolution suit”.

ivolution-suit

ivolution-suit

The ivolution suit is a stylish leather case that wraps around your P Series nicely and stays intact on opening and closing. There are a few different designs, starting from $180, they are handcrafted and of course customisable.

However, if you don’t want to spend nearly 200 smackers for a decent looking one you might also want to consider the “classic Retro Slim Jacket” which is basically a leather envelope that doesn’t offer as much protection but still gives a distinct stylish design.

Upcoming Ferrari supercars based on FXX and Millechili concept

A second supercar could appear based on the FXX development program, we think it far more likely that one vehicle will prevail, borrowing on themes and components from both the Millechili and the FXX test-bed.With the Enzo now out of production, and no mega-super-car in the Ferrari stable, the prancing stallion brand believes the Millechili concept, first revealed at the automaker’s 60th anniversary extravaganza, to move from the realm of conceptual toilet paper tubes to production.

The buff book’s sources report Ferrari is looking to see the Ferrari Millechili hit the streets as a 2010 model. One approach is reportedly being based on the Millechili concept, which as you’ll recall was essentially a chopped-down Enzo crafted out of cardboard and plastic holding the promise of environmentally-friendly specs. The production vehicle is tipped to be based on the F430’s platform remember that the 288 GTO and F40 were based on modified 308 underpinnings – but feature a 600hp V10 in a lightweight 1000kg package, with a lengthened wheelbase of around 104 inces, a $500,000 price tag and a production run of 300.

Latest in technology EyeSeeCam tracks your eye movements to control robots

This neat new robotic technology developed by the scientists over at the University of Munich Hospital. The EyeSeeCam has been developed to track the viewpoint of the user’s pupils, this as a result then transmits data to servo actuators that can control any number of mechanical devices imaginable.

eyeseecam

Examples include a video cameras or even a robot. It sounds extremely simple to use, in fact, the EyeSeeCam has been practically developed to adapt to us, humans.

In terms of technical specs. the device can be operated remotely via wireless lan and only requires a standard laptop with a 6-pin firewire port. While the German scientists originally created the EyeSeeCam to study patient cognitive behavior, it looks like they will also soon capitalise on the device and its idea for some profit within the commercial market.

What’s interesting is I wonder whether they have thought about helping patients with “locked in” syndrome, probably one of the most tragic results of brain injury. This technology would definitely be of therapeutic benefit in terms of helping these patients to gain more physical communication. It would be great to find out more.

Free! Microsoft offering Windows 7 to all users for a year

Microsoft is to start offering effectively from tomorrow (5th May) all users free access to Windows 7 for one full year. Some of you who have friends that are MSDN or TechNet subscribers may already realise that they have been given this privileged access.

While this is only the Release Candidate (RC) version and will eventually expire on the 1st of June, 2010. The RC as you will expect is basically the finishing product and Microsoft presumably wants to hand it out to all users to test run it and see if any bugs exists so that they may fix it before its final release. Though it must be said, one full year is quite a lengthy period, this does indicate how seriously Microsoft is considering their new OS this time which is a positive thing.

ballmer-windows7

While rumors say it’ll be late 2009 or early 2010 before the full Windows 7 will be available, there is still no official info on the exact date this at this point. Neither do we know whether there will be multiple versions of the new Windows just like Vista did. Windows 7 will be a full package of new features including a new taskbar, libraries, jump lists, and even a Windows XP mode to increase application and software compatibility after you’ve upgraded to Windows 7.

start-menu-integration-windows-xp-mode

Most importantly, booting up Windows 7 is expected to take much much less time than any of Microsoft’s current OS’s. Let’s just hope Microsoft’s servers won’t go bust tomorrow and that the download will actually work, fingerscrossed!

Rumor: New iPhone Lite and Apple Media Pad

From BusinessWeek’s sources, verizone wireless is in talks with Apple to launch two new iPhone-like devices as early as this summer: iPhone Lite and Apple Media Pad.

iPhone Lite is smaller, thinner and cheaper than the current iPhone 3G. It is intended predominantly for calls rather than the full gamut of smartphone functionality. The reason iPhone Lite is much cheaper than existing iPhone is that it relies on a so-called system on a chip, which incorporates many types of chips and drives down the cost of silicon in such devices. The new chip could also potentially be used in the media pad.

As for the Apple Media Pad, which would be something bigger than a cellphone but smaller than a netbook. It is basically similar to the size of a AMAZON KINDLE 2 but with a full touchscreen. It allows users watching HD video and doing other things. The Apple Media Pad would also support VoIP over its WiFi connection.

Proof That MAG is Coming Out in 2009?

Sony is finally starting to show off the PlayStation 3’s potential. Killzone 2 has received praise for its ultra-realistic graphics and exciting gameplay. MLB: The Show could easily be the best baseball game and perhaps the sports game of the year. Now PS3 owners are now anxiously waiting for even more hits — and Sony has them coming, but the question is; when will they arrive in stores.

One of these titles is Zipper Interactive’s high-profile game MAG. The massively multiplayer online shooting was first announced at last year’s E3. But since its unveiling, it has been a blur of when we should expect to get out hands on it. For some reason, Sony has been going back and forth using the terms “this year” and “fiscal year.” If your wondering if there is a difference; the answer is yes — and its a HUGE difference (depending how you look at it). This year would obviously mean by the end of 2009, while fiscal (for Sony) means anywhere from April 2009 to March 2010.

Scott Rohde who is Sony’s Vice President of Product Development, might have given us a little insight of when MAG should be available. While talking about the quality of the PS3’s lineup for 2009, he mentioned the shooter.

“I think what we try to do is come up with original concepts, and even twists on some existing genres, like what we’re doing with MAG for later this year”

Because we are still in March, 2009-2010’s fiscal year for Sony has yet to start. Meaning, MAG should debut by the end of 2009. Unless of course, Sony sends the PR dogs out and they correct Mr Rohde, which is always possible. Until then, expect to be playing the shooter sometime later this year.

Top 4 Gaming Mobiles

There has never been an official transition of the handheld gaming console over to the mobile phone segment. Of course you understand it was never necessary in the first place. Both devices are portable in nature and the purpose of using the handset for merely taking calls like a telephone quickly became obsolete. But I’ve said this before; mobile gaming is a big deal, ever since those Snake games on the old monochrome handsets of yore were followed by Java games that are still big time winners today.

The mobile phone market now even has a separate category of multimedia handsets for this specific purpose - gaming. Some gaming mobiles are more generic in nature but do still manage to offer superb capabilities to be used for handheld mobile gaming. In case you like to take your games everywhere and already have a Nintendo DS or PSP or other portable gaming devices that satisfy your fetish for gaming hardware, here're a few mobiles phones you might want to consider.

Spice X1 Rs. 8,000
Spice’s X1 gaming mobile may have taken mobile gaming to the next level by reviving an older SE idea of a joystick attachment accessory for a mobile phone. The X1 comes bundled with this attachable controller that makes game-play a great experience. The handset itself also comes with a set of ‘X’ and ‘O’ action keys and you don’t necessarily need to use the controller.

Spice has preloaded a few JAVA games onto the handset and provides quite a few games in the NES ROM format. Nostalgic gamers will enjoy this. You can choose from a list of those oldies but good, 8 bit classics like Batman, Mario and even Kung Fu. It has a large 2.4-inch TFT LCD with a 240 x 320 pixel resolution that only helps while playing and also features a microSD card slot, Stereo Bluetooth, a 2MP camera and GPRS support among other things.

Sony Ericsson F305 - Rs. 9,000
The F305 could very well be SE’s flagship mobile for a possible range of new gaming handsets, since Sony is no stranger to the gaming market with their PSP rating quite high on the handheld gaming console segment of gadgetry.

The handset may have just one drawback and that’s its small 2-inch display that sports a 176 x 220 pixel resolution; but it makes up for that with plenty of other relevant features. The handset has been designed with two gaming styles in mind – motion sensor and full screen landscape games. The motion sensor games allow you to use the device like a Wii controller by swinging your arms for action. Since the handset also comes with ‘X’ and ‘O’ gaming keys on either side of the earpiece, games that can be played in landscape mode are much more entertaining. Other features include an audio player, FM radio and a 2MP camera plus Bluetooth with A2DP and GPRS/EDGE support. It supports JAVA games and M2 cards for external memory.

Nokia N85 - Rs. 23, 000
Nokia’s N-Series has always been a popular range of mobile handsets because of their multimedia capabilities. One of the successors to the N81 handset that was the first to host Nokia’s N-Gage gaming platform and was designed for gaming purposes, the N85, takes it up a notch with its dual-slider capabilities and 5MP AF camera.

The N85 is also being classified as a gaming handset because of its superb 2.5-inch, 240 x 320 pixel, 16 million color, OLED display. The once-dedicated-multimedia-keys that appear from the top double as gaming keys for the phone. The handset does seem a bit heavy though at 128g, but that only adds to the stability of the phone in your hand while gaming. It’s also equipped with a microSD card slot, Stereo Bluetooth, internal GPS (AGPS Support), TV out, and Wi-fi. It supports JAVA and .SIS game formats. Look out for the review on Tech2.com.

Fast Charging Batteries

MIT researchers working on rechargeable battery technology believe they may have discovered a breakthrough that will significantly improve battery charging times.

Fast Charging Batteries - Future Technology

As to how fast, professor Gerbrand Ceder indicates that a small lithium-ion battery, those commonly found in cell phones could be recharged in under 10 seconds. Additionally, large batteries such as those that will power plug-in gas or electric cars could be recharged in just a few minutes.

The improvements in battery charge times are due to a coat of lithium phosphate which forces the battery to charge in short but intense bursts.

Researchers indicate that they have already licensed the new technology to unnamed companies and expect to see this technology enter the marketplace in the next two to three years.

Max Payne 3 coming to Xbox 360, PS3, PC this winter

For all the things Mark Wahlberg has killed in his life -- The Happening, The Funky Bunch, The Happening Funky Bunch (short-lived kids show, don't ask) -- he's brought at least one thing back to life: The Max Payne series. His non-hit film adaptation will be followed by Max Payne 3, which Rockstar said will arrive in winter of this year on the 360, PS3 and PC.

Here's what Rockstar boss Sam Houser had to say about the sequel: "We're starting a new chapter of Max's life with this game. This is Max as we've never seen him before, a few years older, more world-weary and cynical than ever. We experience the downward spiral of his life after the events of Max Payne 2 and witness his last chance for salvation."

We think we speak for everyone when we ask this. ... More cynical? Really? Like, is he just stealing candy from babies and choking them to death with the wrappers?

Steampunk remake of War of the Worlds promises tripod-on-tripod action

Steampunk-War-of-the-Worlds-Heavy-Metal.jpgHow do you grab attention for your upcoming straight-to-DVD animated film? Say stuff like "1,500-foot-long armored zeppelins" and "steam-powered battle tripods." Oh, and "sex in the cockpit" probably didn't hurt, either.

War of the Worlds: Goliath promises all of that and more, according to a rough synopsis on the Heavy Metal Magazine Fan Page by director Joe Pearson:

It's an R-rated, retro-history, [1914 steampunk epic], fourteen years after the first failed Martian invasion. Mankind has rebuilt her cities and [the military is] adapting a lot of the abandoned Martian technology… Think of "Band of Brothers" meets "Star Wars"… It will be cool, steam-powered battle tripods, doomed Cossack cavalry charges, Victorian deco, steampunk Manhattan, 1,500-foot-long armored battle zeppelins, Teddy Roosevelt, souped up tri-planes, blood on steaming metal, sex in the cockpit. The usual… It will have a budget of around $3 million, and be produced by Tripod Entertainment… and is being co-produced by Kevin Eastman (owner of Heavy Metal).

Awesome steampunk robots? It's almost as if they've been reading DVICE. Goliath is scheduled for an early 2010 release, but, until then, feast your eyes on the awesome concept art below.
