iPhone carpentry: Handmade wooden iPhone case

Check out this wooden iPhone case, made from cedar and pine wood. I don’t know about you but from my untrained eyes, this case looks to be well done, you can take photos from your iPhone too without needing to take it apart. While it may look abit bulky, the creater - greenhousefx has done a terrific job of perfecting this wooden case and has even done a nice Apple logo at the back.

Marvel Comics Coming To iTunes

Marvel Comic Books

Here's a good news for comic book lovers, cause pretty soon you'll be able to enjoy reading your comic books within your iPod touch or iPhone. This announcement was made by Marvel last week at ComicCon concerning their intention to sell 'In-Motion' comic books through the iTunes Store. According to Marvel, "the In-Motion comics go beyond the paperback books with animated panels and voice-over work from popular actors." But don't worry, the traditional paper version will also be available soon after the iTunes version comes out. No word on pricing and release dates yet.

iBreath To Tackle Drink Driving

The iBreath breathalyzer.

The latest weapon in the war against drink driving is a breathalyser linked to an iPod or iPhone.

The iBreath allows users to check their blood alcohol content to see if they are fit to drive.

David Steele Enterprises says the device can measure an individual’s blood alcohol range within 0.000 per cent and 0.100 per cent, and can remind users when it’s time for their next breath test. “Not only can this cool gizmo save you from career-ending embarrassment, it can potentially save you thousands of dollars in legal fees and jail time,” the company claims.

But the NSW Traffic Services Commander, Chief Superintendent John Hartley, warned against relying on the accuracy of such devices, which cannot be used as evidence in court. “No one single device is ever accurate, and blood alcohol levels can rise or fall very easily. That’s why police test drivers twice,” he said.

“While it’s good that this device raises awareness of the ‘don’t drink and drive’ message, my simple recommendation would be don’t drink and drive at all.”

The iBreath is the first device of its kind to be compatible with the iPod.

“We haven’t used this particular device, but we do test a few personal breathalysers every six months or so,” Chief Superintendent Hartley said. “The important thing to be aware of is these devices need to be recalibrated regularly.”

The Roads and Traffic Authority recommends consumers look for the Australian Standards tick of approval before buying or using a breathalyser.

Vince George, manager of Australian manufacturer Drivecheck, said his company’s devices exceeded Australian standards and needed regular recalibration. “Our hand-held products turn off after six months and require users to send it back to our professional labs for recalibration to get it working again,” he said.

Since NSW introduced random breath testing in 1982, RTA data shows the number of road fatalities has dropped dramatically, despite more people using the roads.

But James Stewart, chief driving instructor at Eastern Creek Driver Training Centre, said many party-goers still did not consider the real consequences of drink driving. “People often think just about being caught by the police instead of thinking, ‘gee, I hope I don’t kill someone’,” he said.
