New generation watch from SEIKO with e-ink display

Wristwatches are fashionable again, and it’s all thanks to SEIKO. They have just announced new watch with Active Matrix E ink display called “Future Now”. It’s a new technology that allows 80 000 pixels (300 dpi) and 4 gray levels.

So far it’s nothing special because it displays time and date, like any ordinary watch does, but this watch will display world clock photo of the Earth. Besides that it allows all sorts of figures to be rendered, thanks to this Active Matrix E ink display. The use of this new technology allows fluid text and graphics and greater freedom in programmability. All the information that are on the display is 3 times better rendered then on ordinary LCD watches. With this new technology SEIKO presented new kind of display which is ultra thin with high contrast that allows you viewing angle up to 180 degrees while you’re wearing it. It really looks great and it works great but nothing has been announced about release date of the “Future Now” so far.

With his low power consuming thanks to the Active Matrix E ink technology this wristwatch has beaten all of its competition. Too bad nobody knows when this new piece of technology is being released or how much will it cost, but we know that it will be a hit.
